For What? Newcolours Primer for Interior and Exterior Use
Interior Use: Newcolours Primer is ideal for new and previously painted surfaces, including wood types like oak, pine, spruce, cedar, and mahogany. It’s also perfect for metal surfaces such as aluminum and stainless steel, as well as plastics like vinyl and PVC. This high-quality primer covers dark colors and stains caused by tannin, resin, grease, rust, asphalt, crayons, graffiti, and more. Additionally, it helps eliminate lingering odors.
Exterior Use: Recommended for small, localized areas, this Newcolours Primer offers excellent adhesion and flow for topcoats on unpainted or porous surfaces, making it the best primer for wood and other materials in the UK and Ireland.
Surface Preparation
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, level, and free of substances that could affect adhesion. For the best results:
- Clean surfaces with ammonia solution, a suitable cleaning agent, or paint solvent.
- Remove any protruding elements or peeling paint, then sand surfaces smooth.
- For exterior wood, use 80 or 100 grit sandpaper to remove damaged fibers.
- Remove any existing stains and mold, and lightly sand fresh wood exposed for over 4 weeks.
- Fill any holes and dents, and remove nails and screws.
Application Conditions
Apply the Newcolours Primer at temperatures between 18°C and 30°C, with relative humidity below 70%. Ensure the surface temperature is not within 15% of the dew point, and the surface moisture level should not exceed 12%.
Application
- Mix the primer thoroughly before use, avoiding ignition sources.
- Typically, one coat is sufficient; however, a second coat may be necessary for highly porous surfaces.
- For best results, prime the entire surface rather than spot-priming.
- Use a brush, paint roller, or sponge with natural or synthetic hairs (nylon or polyester). For spray application, use a 1.5 – 2.0 nozzle at 3 to 4 bar pressure.
- Do not dilute the Newcolours Primer.
Drying Time
- Dries to the touch within 20 minutes.
- Second coat application: after 50 minutes.
- Full coat adhesion: 1 to 3 days. Note that low temperatures and high humidity may extend drying time.
- Clean tools with alcohol-based agents (e.g., denatured alcohol, acetone) immediately after use.
Coverage
- Approximately 9 m² per litre on smooth, non-porous surfaces.
- Approximately 7 m² per litre on rough, unpainted, and porous surfaces.
- Coverage may vary based on surface texture and application method.
Warranty
- 12-month warranty from the date of production (in unopened containers).
- Store and transport in sealed containers at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C. Protect from freezing.
- Technical Data Sheet and MSDS available upon request.
