How to paint? – Newcolours Paint for Furniture Ireland

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Hi, this is Agness Meehan! Today, I’ll show you how to easily refresh and paint furniture using Newcolours Paint for Furniture Ireland. With a beautiful wooden table and chairs as an example, I’ll guide you through the entire process – from surface preparation, choosing the right products, to the final finishing touches.

Our client requested these pieces to be painted in Alabaster White. To achieve this effect, I’ll use several Newcolours products and share some valuable tips with you.

STEP 1: PREPARING FURNITURE BEFORE PAINTING

Before we start painting, proper surface preparation is key. This is one of the most important steps, as it affects the durability and final look of the painted furniture.

✔ Cleaning the furniture – First, I thoroughly clean the surface with warm soapy water, removing dust, grease, and any other dirt that could affect paint adhesion.

✔ Degreasing – After washing, I wipe the furniture with a clean, dry cloth to ensure no detergent residue is left behind.

✔ Before photos – It’s always a great idea to take before pictures of your furniture, so you can compare the results later!

STEP 2: WHY DO I USE BLOKER PRIMER BEFORE PAINTING WHITE?

Before painting white, it’s essential to apply Newcolours Shellac-Based Bloker Primer. Why?

✔ Prevents stains and bleed-through – Raw wood releases tannins or resins depending on the type of wood. These can penetrate even through varnish and cause yellow stains on the paint. The primer effectively neutralizes them.

✔ Do not dilute the primer – It is very important to use it at full strength, without adding water or solvents. This ensures the best surface protection and results.

✔ Reduces the number of paint layers – Using a primer helps achieve even color coverage with fewer paint layers.

STEP 3: HOW TO MIX YOUR OWN COLOUR – ALABASTER WHITE?

Now, it’s time to start painting! The client requested Alabaster White, which I will mix myself.

To create this color, I need:
🎨 Newcolours Paint for Furniture Iced Coffee Brown [link]

💡 Mixing colors
I add a small amount of Custard Yellow and a drop of Iced Coffee Brown to the white paint. I mix thoroughly until I achieve a warm white shade.

STEP 4: PAINTING – ESSENTIAL TIPS

Now for the most exciting part – painting the furniture!

✔ First coat – I apply a thin layer of Newcolours Paint for Furniture with a brush or Flock roller, always in one direction, following the wood grain.

✔ Drying time – Under normal conditions, the first coat dries in about 30 minutes.

✔ Second coat – Once dry, I apply a second layer for full coverage.

STEP 5: WHY DO I USE WOOD STAIN 
WHITE?

On the tabletop, I applied Newcolours Wood Stain White. A stain enhances the natural wood grain and gives it a unique rustic look.

💡 How to apply wood stain?
✔ Stir the product before use.
✔ Apply an even coat with a brush or sponge.
✔ After 1 minute, wipe off the excess with a cotton cloth for a more subtle effect.
✔ If you want a more intense white finish, apply a second coat.
✔ Keep in mind that this is a highly pigmented and fast-drying product.
✔ Let it dry for 3-4 hours.

STEP 6: PROTECTING THE SURFACE – FINAL FINISHING
