Painting and Wiping – A Distressed Wood Effect

This is another fantastic way to achieve a vintage effect without using chalk paint! The painting and wiping technique allows you to keep the wood grain visible while giving it a delicately aged look. With the right color and a simple trick, you can achieve a stylish, subtly distressed finish.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Choosing the Paint – The right shade is key. In this case, I use Newcolours Iced Coffee Brown, which gives the wood a beautiful, grey-beige tone.
2. Applying the Paint – Use a natural bristle brush or a regular brush to evenly apply a layer of paint mixed with water.
3. Painting Direction – Always paint along the wood grain, whether it runs horizontally or vertically.
4. Wiping the Surface – Immediately after applying the paint, gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth. This creates subtle distressed areas, enhancing the aged effect.

A single coat of paint is enough to achieve a delicate distressed effect while keeping the wood grain visible. In my video, I demonstrate this technique from three angles: two from the front and one from the side of the kitchen hutch to show how beautifully it works on different surfaces.
